So happy to be here together. Tell me what is inspiring you in your practice these days.
I am in Ojai, California, my home-away-from-home: Deeply immersed in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, so skillfully shared by James Boag.
This episode focuses on deepening our skills of listening by relaxing into sound and inviting ourselves to (simply) receive it. Our pratyahara practice is a way to remember that we humans are Bharata, of the earth, and one with earth, the natural environment. Thank you so much for being here.
Love, kelly

Sweet beloveds, I am so happy we are here together today. This episode is all about dropping deeper into your own practice. As I mentioned in episode 146 of Samadhi Rush, this is my season for practice (abhyasa, in yoga-talk), and here I talk about ways to create space for deepening your own practice. I am so glad you are here.
I would love for this to be a conversation. A space for your voice. What is inspiring you right now? What would you like to learn? Please leave a voice mail on my google voice line or via speakpipe and I will create content that matters to you.
Also, I’m finishing up my special gift for donors and reviewers! It is a linotype print of the muladhara chakra! (I’ll post some pics on Instagram later.) Make sure to email me your mailing address if you donate or review us in iTunes. Thank you!!

My prescription for finding the subtle in your yoga practice feels like a spiral, but I will list it out for clarity:
Create an intention & write it down.
Commit to daily practice.
Follow your fascination.
Practice yoga in ACTION through the yoga of relationship and self-study.
Study the texts.
Hold on to let go. Yoga Sutra 1.12.

So happy to be here together today. Here’s to our second week of twice-weekly podcasts. Episode 148 of Samadhi Rush is a discussion and short pratyahara practice. In this episode, I chat about the significance of our sense of smell in the practice of yoga.
The podcast examines physiology, psychology, subtle anatomy and yoga philosophy on the power of smell.
We dive into muladhara chakra, the vrittis, the kleshas and pratyahara.
So happy to have you here for our second week of twice-weekly posts.

So happy to be together. This is our second episode of Samadhi Rush this week! Woot! For the next little bit, I’m aiming to release two podcasts per week: a discussion on Tuesdays and a practice on Thursdays. Tell me what you think by emailing me at sunroseyoga@gmail.com.
In this episode, we begin with a discussion of OM, with references from the Upanishads and the Yoga Sutras. Then, we move into the breath practice of Puraka, followed by an exploration of the sensations we feel as we “a-u-m-*”. Then, a level 2 yoga-movement practice. So happy you are here.

I am excited. This episode goes super-deep into the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Deep into the dark crannies of the third chapter, Vibbhuti Pada, which primarily explores the siddhis, or weird powers/effects/symptoms/stuff, that can arise. Yoga gets weird. Truly.
Background//
The Yoga Sutras, as we have discussed before, are a text that describe both the state of being that is yoga (yogah chitta vritti nirodhah) and the practices that might bring us in to that state of being. (More information on the Yoga Sutras here.) The third chapter describes the loopy, psychedelic states we might find ourselves in with Samyam, or perfect concentration. The sutra we unravel in this particular class is chapter 3, sutra 28, traditionally translated as “By perfect concentration (Samyama) on the pole-star, we know the movement of the stars.” I very much enjoy Matthew Remski’s interpretation: “Meditating on the north star reveals how we move.”
In this class, we pull this esoteric practice into our daily lives: by paying attention to the things that are (somewhat) constant, we notice how change is constantly happening. Watching the moon, making coffee, tucking our kids into bed– all of these things that we do countless times in our lives become the north star by which we can observe objective changes as well as our responses (physical, emotional, mental) to those changes.
Try it.
LOVE, Kelly
The weirder side of practice is real and rarely talked about in class. I’m putting together a resource page for supporting ourselves and each other when our practice gets strange. There are some wonderful Buddhist resources on the topic that I will share here.
One of my favorite yoga bloggers, Angela Jamison, has thoughtfully shared her experiences with the subtle realm for many years. I am so grateful for the depth of her sharing.
