Dearest fellow yogi explorers,
I am so happy to be here with you. This weekend, I traveled to my childhood home to remember my beloved grandmother and to lay her ashes to rest. She was 95 years old and had lived a beautifully deep and wide life. So loved by my family and her friends. Telling stories, remembering her, remembering each other were all such healing parts of my weekend. I am so grateful to be here with you on this path. It truly changes lives.
Today’s episode is a pranayama practice. Pranayama is the heart of my practice. Pranayama is the bridge between the inner and outer world, between inner and outer practice. This particular practice, ajapa mantra, is my go-to for creating or remembering space. s p a c e. There is always space. Even in seemingly impossible closeness, there is always space. Ajapa mantra is among the canon of practices described by the Gehranda Samhita, Shiva Samhita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika (these texts have been so helpfully illuminated by Richard Rosen’s book Original Yoga, which I recommend highly). I am interested in your own experience of ajapa mantra. What do you feel as you practice? How does it work for you? Tell me all about it.
“Yoga increases our capacity for attention.”
